Text saying: Meet Sean! With a green underline.

Dear Neighbors,

My name is Sean O'Brien and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Madison Common Council District 16.

I have lived in Madison my entire life. I am an Eagle Scout, attended our city's public schools, and had my first job in a small business on the East Side. After graduating from Edgewood College, I bought my first home right here in District 16.

I know what this city has to offer, but I also know that it is not working nor affordable for all its residents.

I currently serve as the Policy and Advocacy Director at Fair Wisconsin, working closely with local leaders and policymakers to create a safer, more welcoming Wisconsin for the LGBTQ+ community. I also serve on the Richmond Hill Condo Association Board.

These experiences have taught me how to listen, lead, and advocate for others – especially the most marginalized. I've worked with every level of government on everything from drafting policy to budget proposals, and I am ready to put this experience to work.

Now I’m running for Common Council to continue fighting for my neighbors, for our values, and for positive change as our city continues to grow.

From affordability and public safety to improved infrastructure and city services, there are a lot of opportunities and challenges on the horizon. But together, I know we can build a Madison that works for all of us. I am committed to listening and being a strong voice for every resident of this district.

I hope to meet you soon – at your door, on the street, or at an event – to hear more about your hopes and concerns for District 16 and earn your vote in the April 1st election.

I’ve never been more optimistic about our city’s future, and I’m ready to get to work.

Sincerely,

Sean
